FORMER PANTHER POLITICAL PRISONER SEKOU KAMBUI SPEAKS!
On Thursday, August 18th, former Alabama Black Panther Sekou Cinque Kambui will be a guest speaker at the general assembly meeting for the People’s Organization for Progress.
The general assembly meeting takes place every Thursday at Abyssinian Baptist Church, 224 West Kinney Street, Newark.
“We are honored to have Bro. Kambui who has paid an enormous price with his life in his making his commitment to our struggle,”
said a respectful Lawrence Hamm, the organization’s founding chairman.
Kambui has an incredible profile. He was involved in the Civil Rights Movement in significant ways before his association with the Black Panther Party. He worked with the Congress of Racial Equality better known as CORE, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and even Dr. Martin Luther King’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). He became involved with the Black Panther Party in 1967 and later the New Afrikan independence movement, among others.
In 1975, he endured the anguish of facing a COINTELPRO orchestrated conviction of killing two white men. He was not released until 2014.
Circumstances have been difficult for Kambui, now 68, who is currently battling with a condition of cancer since he was released.
