  • Attorney Zulu Ali and ACUNO Issue Call to Courts and Prosecutors around the country to be more tolerant in its filing of charges and sentencing of Blacks and minorities, who are disproportionately charged with crimes and receive harsher prison sentences.

Attorney Zulu Ali and the American Committee for United Nations Oversight (ACUNO), an advocacy group campaigning for United Nations involvement in the current crisis of Police and Prosecutor misconduct in the United States and has submitted a formal complaint to UN Human Rights and Security Councils, is issuing a call to Courts and prosecutors around the country to be more tolerant with exercising discretion in the filing of criminal charges and sentencing of blacks and other minorities, who are disproportionately charged with crimes and receive longer prison sentences.

In the call, Attorney Ali and ACUNO state that the zero and low tolerance with regards to criminal cases and sentencing is very conflicting and hypocritical, considering the history and foundation of this nation.  Ali says that the Courts and prosecutors should be mindful of the inhumanity imposed on African Americans and Native Americans by the United States, which included chattel slavery of the worst kind, second class citizenship, and atrocities against Native Americans.

The call also emphasizes:

  1. The manner in which the Courts and prosecutors deal with Black and minority subjects has contributed to the precedence and manner in which law enforcement treat persons in these communities.  The message is that a black and minority life is not worth as much as others; and
  2. America has become the wealthiest and most powerful nation based on its foundation and history of imposing inhumane acts against Blacks and other minorities.  To truly embrace America as the nation it has become, redemption and forgiveness has to be at the essence of this realization.  America cannot be continually indicted for its history and nor should its Black and minority citizens who historically, through uncompensated labor, sacrifice, and military service, contributed so much to the building and foundation of this nation.

The disproportionate manner in which courts and prosecutors charge and sentence Blacks and minorities, was revealed in a September 25, 2014 report issued by the United Nations International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.  ACUNO will be distributing a copy of the report to Courts and prosecutors around the country with its call for tolerance.
