• Tradition Ever Since, the nation’s leader in the production of branded black college clothing and HBCU apparel, will expand its offerings in 2013 to include an urban wear collection celebrating great entrepreneurs and artists in the black and Native-American communities.
The collection, set for release in February, will feature three distinct lines with unique slogans and imagery related to historical figures:
-The Black Star Line: Inspired by early 20th century black leader Marcus Garvey -The American Outlaw Line: Celebrating resilience of the American Indian and bonds between black and red America -The Love Supreme Line: An ode to black American jazz great John Coltrane
“One of the things we wanted to do was have something with some meaning to it,” said Tradition Ever Since marketing director and spokesman Gerard Murray, adding the line’s release has been timed to coincide with Black History Month. “When we created the branded collection we said, ‘You know what, the collection should be doing something for black history.’”
The line will build on the company’s success in the thriving market of black college clothing, while taking advantage of a growing interest in historically-themed urban wear, Murray said.
Products will include men’s jackets, button-down shirts and hats, each emblazoned with theme-related imagery. Prices will range from $29 for shirts to just over $100 for jackets.
“Somebody might gravitate to something we have because it matches with a pair of Jordans they have, but at the end of the day, the hang tag has some history on it,” Murray said. “That may not mean a lot to other people, but to us it means something to have some integrity for our company.”
Founded in 2004 by a group that included two black college graduates, Tradition Ever Since has since become a leading producer of hats, sportswear and school pride items geared toward HBCU alumni and fans. Tradition continues to fill an important niche in the collegiate apparel market, producing durable, stylish and high-quality black college-themed goods for diverse consumers.
