Time to Help the HELPERS( X-Offenders for Community Empowerment)
A group met at the home of Benjamin Franklin and created the world'...
Two centuries ago, Philadelphia and Pennsylvania became the center of prison reform worldwide. But until the occupation of Wall Street, we had not yet been able to define ourselves as belonging to a collective group with shared interests; shared interests that cross religious, ethnic, and political lines.
The average length of time served in prison is 2 to 50 years. Consider the technological changes over 14 years: cell phone texting, computer on-line shopping, Facebook, blogs, twitter; debit card purchases in check-out lanes. While barriers to employment and other issues block successful, smooth reintegration back into society, for decades after release.
Can you imagine having no place to live and no family to accept you? A prisoner cannot be released without a physical address.
If you are a returning citizen off parole and probation, (XCE) has helped to empower returning citizens, formerly convicted and incarcerated persons to become fully integrated into society. A returning citizen must learn how to live in an unstructured environment. X.C.E. advocates, teaches citizens about voting rights. Encourages participation with elected officials, spiritual leaders, advocates groups and organizations to educate and inform.
Now as we enter 2012, we need organizations like X-Offenders for Community Empowerment more than ever. We need organizations that bridge the gap between intrepid, patronism, and direct activism. We need organizations that are not observers but participants of populist movements. You can help ! By helping us , you help many friends, neighbors, family and extended family members, directly and indirectly.
