African American cultural sites, the Green Book of South Carolina, has been launched by the South Carolina African American Heritage Commission, offering residents and visitors from around the world a user-friendly guide to discovering and celebrating enriching cultural experiences across the state at http://www.GreenBookofSC.com.
Research indicates that a majority of African Americans in the United States have ancestral connections to South Carolina, and the Green Book of South Carolina provides an online travel tool with which diverse audiences from around the world can plan their ultimate, customized itineraries across South Carolina at http://www.GreenBookofSC.com.
Designed with the mobile user in mind, this new international tourism tool has the fresh, easily accessible web interface of a travel app, featuring 300+ cultural attractions across all 46 counties in South Carolina.
"This is one of the first statewide mobile travel guides to African American cultural destinations to be produced by a state anywhere in the U.S.," says S.C. Senator Vincent Sheheen. "It is positioned to increase even further the $2.4 billion annual economic impact of African American tourism in our state."
The Green Book of S.C. is a contemporary travel-planning tool that pays homage to the original Green Book, first published in 1936 by New York City postman Victor Green as an African American travel guide to safe harbors and welcoming establishments across the United States. This contemporary homage features tourism destinations that impart a new Southern travel experience for all visitors via http://www.GreenBookofSC.com.
South Carolina is one of only two states in the nation with an African American Heritage Commission.
"The richness of South Carolina is related to the diversity of our citizenship, and it's incredibly important that we acknowledge the role that the African American community has played in the development of our state," says former S.C. Governor Jim Hodges.

At the same time, We wanna caution y'all to TAKE CONTROL OF THE NARRATIVE of OURstory. Always be mindful of the Afrikan Proverb: Until the Story of the hunt is told by the Lion, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.
Because We, People of African Descent (PAD), didn’t take control of the narrative of Ourstory of pain and surviving it got sanitized. The horrific inhumane atrocities committed against our humanity have been made tolerable in the reframed perspective that draws spectators (tourist) to the sites were the barbarism occurred. Consequently, the false narrative makes our suffering justifiable in the past, and in the present, because of its legality, thus justifying the economic repression that occurs through the cooping and exploitation of our pain and suffering.
Either We, People of African Descent, Control the Narrative (and the benefit directly from the tourism) or We continue to be economical exploited and socially degraded by the narrative and the insensitivity of the spectators to our historical and contemporary pain and suffering.
