Many are misled into thinking that Donald Trump has captured just a faction of the Republican Party. In reality, he is the champion of the entire Republican Party that fulfills their real views. In other words, the Republican Party has always espoused those Trump views, but held them undercover because they were so repulsive. At last they have found a leader who can get away with admitting them publicly. Regardless of how odious Trump’s actions, generally every Republican member of the Senate and House, both federal and statewide, support them. Republican governors are also in lock step with Trump. Granted, some Republican governors, like Hogan in Maryland, disguise their admiration because they rule in a state with a Democratic majority. It is easy for them to do because deceit and dishonesty are routine strategies for Republicans.

Even Republicans that I know personally, who have been mum politically before, now proudly declare their allegiance to him. Trump has struck a nerve.

I remember how delighted we, Democrats, were when Trump ground the other Republican presidential candidates in the dust to become their nominee. We had such a high opinion of the voters, we thought Hillary would win in a landslide. But, the great white Republican hope won and jubilant Republicans , college-educated and not college-educated, are sieg-heilng his atrocities. This includes even those in the millions, who stand to lose their healthcare by Trump’s attack on Obamacare.

Many think that Trump changed the Republican Party, but instead, Trump recognized and benefited from the true beliefs of the Republican Party. So, if Democrats continue to think that Trump is some aberration of the Republican Party, they had better wise up. Those abhorrent actions he has taken as president, in actuality, are the distilled essence of the Republican Party.
