Except for the victims of war, I do  believe the majority of people do not realize how devastating war really is. War kills thousands of people, destroys homes, hospitals, schools, workplaces, cinemas, bridges, roads,  hopes, futures and aspirations. Even here in invincible America, war would create havoc and there would be no defense against that. Everyone here is confident that if there was a war between the US and Russia or China the US would win. That is folly. There would be no winners, All would be losers. The death and destruction that would result would make all sides losers.

Planes and ships, submarines, bombs and other war paraphernalia are so expensive too. The military industrial complex thrive on the threat of war. Meanwhile the war equipment sits around virtually unused for years to be replaced by  updated and even more expensive replacements. Do you realize that the US defense spending is greater than the combined spending  of  the next ten countries with the largest defense spending.

In my book, “Boycott Money and Save your Soul – Launching the Goodwill Revolution”, I raise the question, “What is the best outcome in dealing with a vicious enemy?” The typical reaction is is kick his teeth in, or some such violent or other harsh treatment to teach him a lesson. But, in my book, the best outcome is that this enemy becomes a friend. This is my Goodwill Resolution recommendation.  I think this is the best outcome for countries too against enemy countries.  In the words of the song by the group ironically named War, “Why can’t we be friends?”  Friends have influence, but enemies don’t.  Can you just imagine a world with friendship between America, and Russia , America and China, North Korea and South Koreas, Israel and Palestine? You get the picture?

To be sure there are tremendous obstacles to achieve this, but the reward makes it worth it. America should lead the way. This would require a government department to perform this important and challenging function. The leader of this peacemaker department, the peacemaker, would be required to be an established peace activist, not some retired war-horse. Of course, a military expert would serve on the staff as an advisor to the head.

I fully recognize that this is a formidable task. Instead of power, abuse of power, paranoia and threats, we will try to unleash dormant friendship, goodwill and plain common sense. The world is waiting. Let the Goodwill Revolution begin!
