The Freddy-Graying of Marilyn Mosby

The completely innocent Freddie Gray was chased, captured, arrested and killed by police. At least four policemen were involved in this cruel operation against an innocent man, instead of pursuing real criminals. I wonder how many innocent black men have been harassed like Freddie Gray, but without being killed. Similarly, federal prosecutors, are pursuing an innocent Baltimore city state’s attorney, Marilyn Mosby, instead of real criminals.  With the limited resources for crime fighting, these persecutions of the innocent is at the expense of tackling real crime and one of the reasons for the high crime rate.

Once Ms. Mosby dared to challenge the police establishment  by bringing these police to trial for the killing of innocent Freddie Gray, her neck was on the block. Let me make it clear, she did not take any taxpayer or anybody’s money. She borrowed her own money from her city retirement account. Federal prosecutors charge she lied about suffering financial hardship during the coronavirus to obtain early and penalty-free withdrawals from her own city retirement savings account.  It seems to me the city retirement system had the responsibility of evaluating such a claim and withholding the loan if there is any dispute. This raises some interesting questions .Do they give out the money without checking?  Do they wait for after  years of giving out the money for uninvited federal investigators to volunteer to check? Do these federal investigators  check all the individuals who made loans of this nature or only Ms. Mosby? The feds checked only the account of Ms. Mosby, because they were obviously out to get her.

Also, the prosecutors have engaged in some sort of ridiculous semantics about financial hardship terminology.  Ms. Mosby’s defense lawyers announced providing a witness to verify her financial hardship. The judge responded by postponing the case for a long six months to give the prosecution enough time to find an expert witness to contradict Ms. Mosby’s witness. If this requires an expert witness, then this must be a very complex issue. If so, then it becomes subject to misinterpretation. Misinterpretation is not perjury.  Any honest judge would dismiss such a case.

Furthermore, six months for the prosecution to find an expert witness seems very suspicious. My suspicion is this delay is deliberately to move the case away from the November elections. The nearness of the elections would highlight and show the relationship of her loss in the primary to her prosecution, especially if she is found innocent. By the time of the new trial date, its impact will have faded away substantially.

Under these circumstances, a fair trial seems very unlikely. However, whether Ms. Mosby wins or loses the trial, she has already lost by just being charged and this was no accident. This was clearly reprisal for seeking justice for Freddy Gray. These trumped-up charges tainted her reputation and was responsible for her loss in the primary. I hope the prosecutors did not have any special contact with any of her two primary rivals.  Another disturbing reality is that these charges were a cruel attempt to depict and stereotype black Baltimore politicians as dishonest. How insulting! I wonder who is behind this, but I have my suspicions.

The loss of Mosby in the primary is a good thing for her.  Why should she continue to serve, risking her neck, for an unappreciative and ungrateful public? Why should she serve among  her political colleagues who failed to show support during this travesty of justice against her? Obviously, they are afraid to incur reprisals too. The killing of Freddy Gray was a crime. The persecution and smearing  of Marilyn Mosby is a crime. Unfortunately, the perpetrators will escape justice. Marilyn Mosby is my hero and will remain so regardless of the dirt her persecutors try to dump on her.
