Talking Right

March 5, 2009Raynard JacksonMany of you are aware that my new radio show starts this Saturday on U.S. Talk Network (www.USTalkNetwork.com). The show is called, “Talking Right with Raynard Jackson.” The show will air from 7-9:00 p.m. every Saturday. The show will be a lively, informational, educational, and fun look at the top news from the areas of politics, business, sports and entertainment. I will interview the biggest names from these areas and then take live calls from my audience throughout the world. The show is not for the faint of heart, as I have no intention of being politically correct. My goal, as host, is to challenge my audience to be better than they already are. Former justice of the Supreme Court, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. once said, “a mind stretched to a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions.” Stretching can sometimes be uncomfortable. That is my goal—to stretch my audience to new thoughts, ideas, and possibilities. Can somebody explain to me why we have 44 members of the Congressional Black Caucus who seem not to be able to help their communities? If you look at the pathologies in existence before they were elected to congress compared to now, they are the same or worse. How can that be? Look at the 35th congressional district of California (South central LA). This district is represented by Maxine Waters. Can anyone honestly say this district is any better since Waters’ election? Can we blame slavery, racism, or the “white man” for this? Can somebody explain to me why it’s okay for a Black to call another Black a nigger, but when a white person does; it’s racist? We, until recently, remained quiet when Blacks refer to our women as bitches and hoes, but went apoplectic when Don Imus did.Can somebody explain to me why African and Caribbean heads of state hire white firms to lobby on their behalf in the U.S when there are many capable Black firms and individuals they could use?Can somebody explain to me why Black athletes seem to always have problems with the law when they are out on the town, but white athletes like Brett Favre, Troy Aikman, or John Elway, never did at the height of their fame?I want to challenge the radical, liberal orthodoxy being propagated in our community by the Jesse Jacksons, Al Sharptons, Michael Dysons, etc. We have had 40 plus years of liberalism and what has it gotten us? Welfare, family breakup, teenage pregnancy, high school dropout, drug selling, and Black on Black crime.Poverty or lack of a job is not the reason for these pathologies. If they were, why didn’t these same pathologies exist during the depression? Our parents and grand parents had fewer opportunities, but yet lived a better quality of life than we are today. They had less education, but were able to put us through school, buy a home, and buy a car. We have 3 and 4 degrees and can barely do either. The difference is that they had values and they feared the consequences of bad behavior.Talking Right will delve into these issues with an eye towards solving the problems afflicting our community. We cannot continue to blame those outside of our community for the things that are happening inside of our community. If we could snap our fingers right now and make every white person disappear, would that stop one teenage girl from getting pregnant, would that stop one more senseless killing in our community, would that prevent another high school dropout? The obvious answer is no.Some say I am very hard on our community. I am because people were hard on me and I think I turned out pretty well. We must push each other to be better. We can’t accept failure for any reason. We have a history of excelling despite slavery, racism, and discrimination. With the progress our country has made over the years, how can we expect less now than what was demanded in the past?Talking Right will challenge the spirit of complacency that has permeated our community. We must stop being so emotional and start being more strategic, especially when it comes to politics. If people in power don’t do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do, then what?Talking Right with Raynard Jackson is not far right, we’re just right!Raynard Jackson is president & CEO of Raynard Jackson & Associates, LLC., a D.C.-based political consulting/government affairs firm.
