Hamas brutally killed thirteen hundred innocent Israelis. Israel’s obvious revenge is to kill as many thousands of innocent Palestinians by bombing, shooting, deprivation of electricity, food, water, medicines and any other fatal means. The UN agrees that these are war crimes. For this killing of thousands of innocent Palestinians, there has been an eerie silence from the US and the mighty European nations. The silence is deafening. This silence gives the green light to Israel to continue killing innocent Palestinian men, women and children. These are actions which would have made Hitler proud. I am ashamed of my country. It is an accomplice to these killings, these war crimes.
In the past, I have joined with anti-war organisations and other progressive groups to create a fair and just American foreign policy. I wanted to be proud of my country. It is obvious that America’s reaction to Israel’s war crime response means that we have completely failed. Now, America has completely abdicated her role as a leader in the world for fairness and justice. She is now living up to what Martin Luther King described as “the greatest purveyor of violence in the world.” Actually, in the past fifty years, America with its wars, invasions, coups, blockade and sanctions has killed more people by far than any other country. I hate to repeat myself, but I am so ashamed.
America and Israel can get away with anything. I refuse to turn my back, I have a moral obligation to speak up against any country, especially my own, that commits or tolerates war crimes. .How about you?
