RIP Democracy

The worst crime of all is genocide, which is defined as the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. Democracy has failed when both Democrats and Republicans have supported the Israelis genocide against the Palestine men, women and children in Gaza. Even black and white politicians support this genocide. Even worse, black politicians join their white counterparts in supporting Israel’s apartheid regime against the Palestinians. Why? This is because they all fear the political power of rich, powerful pro-Israel lobby groups such as American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Popular  politicians, such as Cory Bush (D-MO), Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), and Thomas Massie (R-KY) who opposed America’s complicity with genocide, faced defeat under the relentless attack of AIPAC. This served as a dire warning to other politicians who have fallen into line. Money has overcome democracy.

But, democracy did not face a natural death overseas. It was brutally killed by America. Take Venezuela for example. America does not like Venezuelan President Maduro, so it imposes illegal, arbitrary sanctions on that country. Those illegal sanctions wreak misery on the population. Those sanctions produced over 40,000 deaths in the first year alone. Meanwhile, America supports the right-wing opposition and uses the CIA to further undermine Maduro. The US press pretty much ignores this and depicts Maduro as authoritarian. A version of this is done in many other countries.

Of course this is not the only method used to kill democracy abroad, especially in Latin America. Trump even pardoned US-convicted, drug-trafficking right-wing Honduran president to return to power in Honduras. In countries like Ecuador and Argentina, Trump uses essentially disguised billion-dollar bribes to get his presidential choices elected. Alas, democracy is history in these countries and many others, thanks to America.
