There is no question that when Baltimore city’s states attorney Marilyn Mosby sought justice for Freddie Gray by going after the police who murdered this innocent black man, a target was placed on her back. However, she is not the prime target. These contrived charges are relatively minor but are blown way out of proportion deliberately. The timing of these charges raised my suspicion. They came days after Maryland’s Republican governor, Larry Hogan, launched an unfair criticism about Mosby and on the verge of Mosby re-election. Was that timing a coincidence? I think not. I think it is part of a deliberate plot. The aim of the plot is to discredit Mosby and promote Hogan.
Basically, these charges are a smear attempt which is a prime strategy that Republicans use. Because of recent convictions of a few black Baltimore politicians, they wanted to create a toxic atmosphere in which many people would jump to the conclusion, without fair consideration, that Mosby is guilty. Firstly, one objective is to force Mosby to spend so much time defending herself at the expense of her re-election campaign. This would enhance the chances of her opponents winning and also serve as a strict warning to her successor to stay clear of seeking justice for poor black against the establishment.
Of course, Hogan would expect to gain political benefits from his attacks on Mosby. Does Hogan need political benefits? Yes, he does because he plans to run for the US Senate in this overwhelmingly Democratic state. He will then be painted as this great crusader against corrupt Democrats. So, his prime target is actually Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen, his opponent in the coming elections. Yes Virginia, Chris Van Hollen is the prime target
Baltimore, we cannot let this brave courageous State Attorney, Marilyn Mosby, be destroyed by these cunning Republicans. Bogus convictions of brave black leaders are not new. Recently the former Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Right Honourable P.J. Patterson, launched a petition to overturn the bogus conviction of one of the greatest black leaders in America, Marcus Garvey, who was originally from Jamaica. Personally I believe the US will overturn Garvey’s bogus conviction only if it suits them. They would earn my respect if they did, but in this Trump-Republican-racially-polarized-Critical-Race-Theory-banning environment, I am not optimistic. But, I see this Garvey conviction as a bright badge of honour and an inspiration for black leaders fighting for the rights of black people.
Baltimore needs to rally defiantly behind this brave lady. Don’t let them get away with it. I am so angry. I even think her opponents in the coming primary election should withdraw and throw their support behind her. What a powerful message that would send. We need to send such a message because black people are up against some formidable odds. We need to unite against these odds. Hail Marilyn Mosby!
