There is not much doubt that refugees are unwelcome in the US. Black and brown refugees are the least welcome. Donald Trump owes lots of his popularity to his manifest hatred of refugees from what he describes as “shithole countries”. The media gives us the impression that the majority of these refugees are trying to get into the US, the UK, France and other European countries. Well the fact is none of these countries (except Germany) are in the top ten of hosting refugees. The ten host countries with the highest number of refugees are:
- Turkey (3.7 million)
- Jordan (2.9 million)
- Lebanon (1.4 million)
- Pakistan (1.4 million)
- Uganda (1.1 million)
- Germany (1 million)
- Iran (979,400)
- Ethiopia (921.00)
- Sudan (908,700)
- Bangladesh (906,600)
As a matter of fact approximately 80%, are resettling in poor countries that can least afford them. Yet we are led to believe that big rich US is being overwhelmed by refugees at our southern border. Biden announced plans to accept 100,000 white Ukrainian refugees with much fanfare. There are currently over 4 million Ukrainian refugees and that number is growing. Let’s keep this in perspective as this 100,000 represents a mere 2.5% of those refugees.
