Recently I watched Frontline production of “Poor Kids” on PBS TV. Actually, I did not watch the entire show. The plight of poor kids in America, the richest country in the world, was too depressing. It was a disgrace. I had to turn it off.
It made me think of how the Build Back Better bill would help poor kids. Conditions require that this bill deserves unanimous support. The time is overdue for the rich billionaires to step up and help the poor by visibly and vocally supporting this bill. These rich people have massive power and are almost treated like gods. They have unlimited money. Besides, we all know that they call the shots.
I call upon people like Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, and the Koch Brothers, to support this bill. Tax-deductible charitable donations are just not enough. This is not a political issue. It is a human issue. Partisan politics has no place in such a catastrophe. This bill will make a difference to those poor kids, so to shy away from it on political grounds is bull.
Ironically, the super-rich have the reputation of using their considerable influence on their politicians to oppose such people-friendly legislation. In their ivory towers, they are probably out of touch with the suffering of the poor. So, I urge them to watch this PBS show and let their support for Build Back Better be a turning point in their attitude towards the less fortunate. These poor kids are depending on them. I hope they won’t be disappointed.
