Kung Fu Panda Generation

Let’s go to the movies
See the  story of Jesse Owens
A true champion
Let’s see Jesse overcome
Depressing poverty
Racial humiliation
The malevolent hate-filled Adolf Hitler
And his thousands of saluting fans
Right in their Berlin backyard
To become champion
A champion of the world!
A true story
An exciting story
An inspiring story
A story that every black child
Should see!

“I want to see Kung Fu Panda instead
Besides, Kung Fu Panda can run faster than Jesse Owens
…………….

Give me the damned cup of hemlock!

This is not just a simple poem I wrote. It exposes a grandfather's dilemma. Do I take my 11-year-old grandson to Kung Fu Panda or the Jesse Owens movie? Do I take him to the Caribbean Festival in the park even though he wants to stay home and play video games. Do I take my teenage granddaughter  to see the play Oliver or her preference 'shopping"? If I do not yield to their desires, then Grandpa loses favor and then they will not want to go out with him. I guess I should just capitulate and join the Kung Fu generation. Give me the damned cup of hemlock.
