Independence Or What?

www.lavondastaples.com

How many times have I heard someone say, "I don't need nobody.  I pay my own bills.  I got my own car.  I got my own house?"  Let me cut to the chase and let you know that I'm convinced that our entire society is convinced that independence is purely a matter of economics.  It isn't.  Who am I to disagree?  I'm nothing.  I'm a nobody.  I can't tell you exactly how I know this but I believe that I'm right.  I don't mind at all if you disagree.  In disagreement there is growth.

It's possible to have every economic advantage and still be dependent.  When Stevie Wonder was Lil' Stevie he was very wealthy but he was physically dependent upon another person or persons to help him ambulate his geography.  The spouse of a wealthy person can have access to great riches, luxury, and a life of ease but he or she can still be very much dependent on the whims of a rich husband or a wealthy sugar momma.  There are different kinds of dependency but I think there's only one remedy:  freedom.

Freedom doesn't necessarily feel good.  As a matter of fact, it can be so crushing that people sometimes run back into prison, bad marriages, or pimps' Cadillac cars when freedom is too much to bear.  Enslavement takes several forms and some are more pleasurable than others.

I recently got off a couple of plantations.  I decided that I was never going to achieve ANY dream if my actions were not my own, of my own mind, of my own choosing, and unfortunately on my own dime.  Oh my goodness, freedom is painful to the pocketbook as well.  It's a pain I can bear.  It's much worse than the way I imagine I'll feel if I never attempt to create my own world.
