Baltimore mayor Brandon Scott is doing an excellent job. However,  he gets very little credit and must endure all sorts of undeserved criticism. This is not unusual and is a problem that most black politicians must put up with.  The unwarranted criticism of good politicians is becoming a problem that is threatening our Democracy. The most dangerous critics are rich and powerful, who are frustrated by politicians who refuse to do their bidding. They will use every dirty trick in the book to either replace them with their hirelings or beat them into submission. This is alarming as it could result in the elimination of good politicians. Of course, thanks to Donald Trump, racism against blacks has flared, and this is an additional hurdle every black politician has to contend with.

I watch Jeopardy on Fox News nightly and almost every time there is a break in the program, Fox News slips in some snide criticism of some Baltimore city official. It is slick, but it does not escape me. Of course, this is no surprise, as Fox News has the reputation of smearing good politicians all over the country.

But, what is most distressing, is that these biased powerful critics are able to undermine some of the black support for our hardworking mayor. This is a prime tactic and it pains me to see so many black people fall for it.

One of the prime targets for criticism is the crime problem. Baltimore is not unique as crime is a very serious problem in cities  all over America. It is apparent that Mayor Scott is doing everything to solve this  complex problem. However, there is no proven solution to this problem or all cities would have adopted it. Let us remember that no one is infallible and we must have realistic expectations. So, instead of falling for the trivializing the solution to this problem, let us all support Mayor Scott’s obvious and courageous determination to find a solution. By doing this, not only will we be supporting Mayor Scott, but we will be supporting true democracy.
