I am Maria Landry Ross resident of Dallas and founder of Ross Flags and Designs and creator of the first-ever Dr. Martin Luther King Flag. The flag idea was launched less than a year ago after being victim to a hate crime in Houston, Texas. The Ross Family awoke to a 7foot cross burning on the morning of Juneteenth, A Milestone in Human Rights for African-Americans which celebrated the momentous announcement in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves.Instead of being bitter, this life-changing incident ignited a fire within the Ross Family to do something about the inherent cause of the incident. The Ross Family is licensed by Intellectual Properties Management (the exclusive licensor of The King Estate) to create, manufacture, and market the first flag honoring Dr. King!I am writing to you to express my need for your support in embracing the vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Our goal is to team up with sponsors to donate flags to school districts throughout our nation. This looks to be our best way of accomplishing our goal and it becomes a win –win for the schools, our children, a win for the sponsoring business because of the tremendous goodwill it displays. The culmination of the last 8 years stimulated a desire and an inspiration to design and create a visual symbol that exemplifies pride, shows respect, and stimulates dialogue, all critical in addressing the continued racial tension in our country brought on by ignorance and intolerance. The flag’s slogan, “Yesterday’s Dream, Tomorrow’s Reality” offers a glimpse into how far Dr. King’s dream has come. We feel Dr. King’s flag is a visual symbol that will heighten public and social awareness and is a tool that will impact and empower all generations. This simple symbol can’t remedy all ills but it certainly is a great start. It reminds all of us, especially our educators and administrators, to teach in our schools the importance of what Dr. King stood for. Our young boys and girls can dream and reach far beyond into infinity. The role model of Dr. King and your Diversity Inclusion Program within your organization is a guiding light for those dreams. Let’s afford our children with tool and visual aid (Dr. King’s Flag) as a reminder that anything is possible. For more info visit www.rossflags.com
