To quote from my recent book, A Jamaica Poor No More:
“We have been conditioned to look upon the rich powerful countries as models. Why should these rich powerful countries be the model for the world with their history of slavery, colonialism, imperialism, hundreds of thousands of innocent people killed by their wars, their slaughter and dispossession of indigenous people all over the world. In God’s name, why?
Forget them. Let us be different. In the words of Afro-American author Alice Walker,” we are the ones we have been waiting for”.
For example, the US has elected a chronic liar and racist as its president. It is obvious that integrity is an irrelevant quality for political leadership there. Such blatant dishonesty displayed by Donald Trump would prevent him from being elected even dog catcher in any Caribbean country. We have higher standards.
In this respect , as far as I am concerned, the greatest leader in the world today is Prime Minister Mea Mottley of Barbados. I was first drawn to her on her interview by Christiane Amanpour on PBS TV program Amanpour and Company. I was so impressed that I proceeded to do some research on the Prime Minister. This led me to the conclusion that she is the best. Trump is the worst.
