I am deeply saddened at the news that New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern is quitting. She is one of the few leaders in the world that has earned my respect and admiration. Especially at this time when the world suffers from a severe shortage of good leaders. All over the world, democracy has deteriorated. The choice for leadership, often does not even include good, but is a choice between the lesser of two evils.

Politics has become really dirty so if you are clean, you are at a big disadvantage. Here in America, thanks primarily to Republicans, integrity is irrelevant. To maintain one’s high ethical standards, a politician often must endure lies, smears, threats, bribery, bias, treachery, ingratitude, obstruction and stereotyping. So, I am not totally surprised that Prime Minister Ardern has quit. Even with a passion for doing good for the country, just overcoming these obstacles, can make such a mission impossible. In Jamaica, one such good person, Lisa Hanna, just quit politics. Unfortunately, politics has gotten dirtier so much so that good politicians suffer and bad ones thrive. A great example. Is Donald Trump.

My choice for US president is a good person, Medea Benjamin of Codepink, so she does mot stand a chance. Instead, I’m stuck with voting for another war-mongering, sanctions-killing, NATO-intimidating, Palestine-genocide-supporting international bully. Unfortunately, this is what the American people want.
