A Jamaica Poor No More

To paraphrase lines from, Thomas Gray’s poem, “Elegy Written in a Country Courtyard”,

“Full many a book is born unread
And waste it’s sweetness on the library bench”
.

In order to avoid that fate for my book, “A Jamaica Poor No More”, I am giving you the opportunity to read this book for free. Yes, read this book for free. If you care about Jamaica, read this book. If you care about any underdeveloped country, read this book. Read it and spread the word, especially to persons of influence.

I will send the text of this book to you,  a chapter approximately each week by email for free. I am doing this because I want Jamaica to be poor no more.

About the book (available at Amazon.com)

If Jamaica and other developing countries do like they have been doing, they will be forever poor.  But by following the blueprint  detailed in my book,” A Jamaica Poor No More”, Jamaica will become poor no more. The book introduces Jamaicanism, Partnership With People and the Goodwill Revolution to make Jamaica have not just a high quality of life, but among the highest in the world. These three concepts are all revolutionary , because that’s what it will take to replace the failed traditional ones now in place.

Jamaicanism and Partnership With People will address the removal of poverty. So, it will be goodbye to International Monetary Fund extortion. The Goodwill Revolution seeks to culturally transform Jamaica from a money-hogging rat race. so typical worldwide, to a peoples  network of mutual support.

Dedication

This book is dedicated to the overseas Jamaicans, who despite living abroad, continue to maintain a keen interest in Jamaica and involve themselves in helping out in so many ways. Some of these Jamaicans run the myriad of Jamaican organisations which keep the Jamaican culture and concerns alive. Others organize doctors and other medical personnel to come  to Jamaica to donate their services to operate badly needed free medical clinics in various regions of Jamaica, often year after year.

This dedication includes, specifically, Glennor Shirley, who performed the valuable task of editing this book and for free. I am so indebted to her.

Introduction

Jamaica has problems. This book does not babble about them but comes up with unique solutions to these problems. From over twenty five years of writing the Hot Calaloo newsletter about Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean, I have maintained and acute knowledge and perspective which I have brought to this book.

How come developing countries never develop? Jamaica is in that pack. Will Jamaica develop in five years, ten years, ever?  I think there is acceptance of Jamaica poor forever. Not only that, but there is hope that she will never go bankrupt like Puerto Rico has. In 1954 Jamaica was the leading exporter of bauxite in the world. Now, in 2019, her rating is very low. Once the US dollar was less than the Jamaican dollar. Now the Jamaican dollar is less than one US cent!

The fact is, if Jamaica and other developing countries do like they have been doing, they will be forever poor.  But by following the revolutionary  economic policy as detailed in my book, A Jamaica Poor No More, Jamaica will become poor no more. Jamaica has been begging for scraps from our economic masters. But, no more. With our new economic policy of Jamaicanism, Jamaica will be standing proud, poor no more, begging for scraps no more.

The book introduces Jamaicanism and applies the Goodwill Revolution to make Jamaica have, not just a high quality of life, but among the highest in the world.

Jamaicanism will fix the poverty problem, but that is not the only problem. All over the world a  rat race culture pits people against one another in a competition to get as much money, materials, and power as they can. This rat race culture is driven by the love of money. This is not good. After all,  the love of money is the root of all evil. Greed, selfishness, ruthlessness and avarice are assets in the money-hogging rat race culture. Kindness, sincerity, compassion are liabilities. The rat race culture  has corrupted our values and our institutions. The winners of the rat race are highly respected. Losers are  despised.  If there are ten participants in any race, there is only one winner, but nine losers.  Similarly, the rat race creates lots of losers. This is unacceptable.

Unfortunately, most people think the rat race is compulsory. But, we do have a choice. Simply dropping out is not really a solution. Jamaica needs to choose a real alternative to the rat race. The Goodwill Revolution is that alternative. The rat race culture is deeply entrenched so it will take a revolution, a cultural revolution, hence the Goodwill-to-all revolution.

The Goodwill Revolution encompasses a comprehensive set of principles which reinforces and mobilizes the inherent goodness of mankind as the key to true happiness. In the Goodwill Revolution, kindness, compassion, and  honesty are valuable assets.  Greed, selfishness, ruthlessness are liabilities.

So the book advocates Jamaicanism to fix the economic problems and also the rejection of the money-hogging rat race to adopt the Goodwill Revolution in order to fix the cultural problems.
