The second annual PanAfrican Cultural Festival is part of a series of events commemorating September as African Heritage Month in Montgomery County.
This event will be held at the Plaza of the newly constructed Silver Spring Civic Center at One Veterans Plaza, 850 Ellsworth Drive, Silver Spring, MD 20910. This year, we expect about 5,000 participants to come through the festival venue.
The festival is designed to showcase the rich and diverse cultures of African countries. 2011 is recognized as “The International Year of People of African Descent” and this event provides a unique opportunity to celebrate the heritage and showcase the cultures of Africans as we foster collaboration within our local communities in keeping with the 2011 Heritage month theme: 'Unite and Collaborate: Supporting Partnerships for Progress.'"
The African Heritage Month recognizes the African Union day and the critical relationships between the United States and African nations. This will also be an opportunity to welcome the newest country on the continent, The Republic of Southern Sudan
