preston.gif1) Make your title as short, as descriptive and as eye-catching as possible. If your title is too long, consider using a sub-title.

2) Make sure the first three sentences of your release are clear and newsworthy, as they are the most important.

3) Avoid excessive use of adjectives and fancy language, and avoid using exclamation marks!

4) Make it as easy as possible for media representatives to do their jobs. This means your press release should be flawless, and easy for them to copy and paste!

5) Mention a relevant and recent case study, data report, or survey. Journalists love these!

6) Deal with the facts. Unless you are writing a column or quoting someone, your press release should not have opinions.

7) Ask yourself, "Will people be able to relate to this?"

8) Only link to one or two relevant web sites. Journalists hate excessive links.

9) Include a professional logo or photo that is relevant to the story. A colorful image can bring a story to life!

10) Get the length right! Too long is just as bad as too short. Your press release should be about 1 page long.
