POETRY LEGEND FETED!

On Wednesday, April 3rd, New Black Panther Party national minister of culture Zayid Muhammad will participate in a poetic roundtable tribute to the late poetry legend Louis Reyes Rivera.

The tribute is sponsored by the Frances EW Harper Literary Society, will feature poet Layding Kaliba and will take place at the Newark Public Library, 5 Washington St., Newark at 6pm.

Muhammad, as a poet, was greatly influenced by Rivera’s historically dense poems. He will perform Rivera’s classic poem capturing the assassination of Malcolm X, A Place I Never Been…

NEW PANTHERS PARTICIPATE IN MARCH OBSERVING MLK ASSASSINATION

On Thursday, April 4th, the New Black Panther Party will participate in a march and rally observing the 45th anniversary of the assassination of the immortal drum major for justice, Martin Luther King.

The march and rally organized by the Peoples Organization for Progress will begin from the Lincoln Monument located at Springfield Av. and West Market St. in Newark and will feature Civil Rights pioneer Claudette Colvin, who was the first to face arrest nine before Rosa Parks and key in setting off the epic Montgomery Bus Boycott.

Participants will assemble starting at 4:30pm.

“The assassination of Martin Luther King was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Black youth of the 1960’s,” explained Muhammad.

“His assassination led to the exponential growth of the Black Panther Party. The assassination, that savage act, made it clear that they were not going to let us move forward with Nonviolence alone”…973-801-0001…

NEW PANTHER LEADER RALLIES WITH FAMILIES OF GUN VIOLENCE VICTIMS

On Saturday, April 13th, Zayid Muhammad, area New Black Panther leader, will rally with families of gun violence victims in a special ceremony at Newark City Hall from 12 noon to 4pm.

This moving gathering is organized by FP Youth Outcry and is called ‘A Day of Healing:It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye’…973-732-4690

On Sunday, April 21st Muhammad will rally with gun violence victims in Elizabeth organized by community organizer Bridget Rose who lost a nephew to gun violence.

The event called ‘A Day of Support, Embrace and Rebuilding’ and will take place at Jackson Park in Elizabeth from 1:30-3:30pm.

“Seize the time on this plague of gun violence,” exclaimed Muhammad, himself a survivor of gun violence.

“The time is now to declare gun violence a public health emergency like we’ve been saying for the last three years and to root out gun trafficking and the corruption covering it up, once and for all.”

Muhammad will be asking the community to support the pending bill of State Assemblyman Lesniak declaring gun violence a public health emergency in New Jersey…973-698-6838…

MAJOR RALLY IN PHILLY FOR MUMIA!

On Wednesday, April 24th, area New Panther leader Zayid Muhammad will be among many participating in an important march and rally to launch a new campaign to secure the release of Mumia Abu Jamal.

This important gathering will observe Mumia’s 59th birthday and will take place from 2-6 at 3 S.Penn Square, near City Hall, in Philadelphia.
