Dont miss your chance to hear this sensational, young vocalist Shenel Johns who blew away the Sistas Place audience when she appeared with Rene McLean last October. She's appearing with the exciting group of young musicians called Umoja. They are the answer to those who worry that our youth are not carrying on the jazz tradition.

Last week Terri Davis opened our Women's History Month series with a standing ovation performance. Dont miss two great weeks in a row. Hit me back for your reservation.

Sistas' Place, 456 Jefferson Avenue (corner of Nostrand) where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit lives and where Culture is our Weapon, continues its 18th season with vocalist Shenel Johns and Umoja featuring alto saxophonist Yunie Mojica, trombonist Raynel Frazier, pianist Zaccai Curtis, bassist Stephen "King" Porter, drummer Kush Abadey.

Shenel Johns came to Sistas' Place by way of the great Rene McLean and his mentoring of her through the Hart School of Jazz, The Jackie McLean Institute. Folks at Sistas' Place were "wowed" by her performance when she sang with Rene's group and everyone wanted to hear more of her. For her debut at Sistas' Place, in keeping with what we believe is a great artist, she chose to bring the collective she has been involved with that calls itself Umoja, a Swahili word which means Unity and one of the Nguzo Saba Principles (created by Mulana Ron Karenga).

Umoja is actually led by Yunie Mojica and Raynel Frazier but for this performance it will feature the outstanding singing of Shenel Johns.

This is certainly a concert you must not miss!!!
