I find this question interesting, in that it is one that is not easily answered. We live on a planet of 6 billion people. That means for most of us, our purpose won't register any impact that can be measured. Secondly, the notion of having a purpose is related to our unique intellect. As humans, we are not driven entirely by instinct, or autonomic responses to our environment. We can think, reason, plan, and adapt to changing circumstances. Moreover, certain leaders -- primarily religious or spiritual -- regularly challenge their followers to have a "purpose for your life." I don't agree that this is something that is necessary for fulfillment.

I have embarked on a number of plans in my life -- to marry and form a family; to learn and pursue a career; to live in peace and relative comfort; to provide for my financial future beyond my working years; to help some who are less fortunate than I am. Any one of those could be elevated to "my purpose." I have been a business executive, I have done missionary work, I have volunteered in my community, I have been a mentor, a husband and father and grandfather.

To what purpose? In a small way, I have sought to make the path I have trod a little easier for those few who may follow in my footsteps. I want to grow old and die peacefully. It seems to me that I would elevate my activity to a level that far exceeds its importance to claim "a purpose." I live and learn every day that the only constant is change. I must adapt to the changing universe around me. I am not able to delude myself into thinking that I can shape the change that happens with "my purpose."

So, if I were to write a purpose statement, it would be to "find harmony with the universe as I encounter its many fascinating elements, to live well, love with passion, earn the respect of intelligent people, appreciate the fullness of creation, look for the best in others, and do the very best I can every day."

    • Roger, thanks for introspecting and taking a look at what is your life and living for and about.
I hope that it got value from engaging in the process.

Our purpose is what we create and choose from what matters to us.
It does not have to be our universal as Garvey's or King's.
Identifying and taking on the fulfillment of our purpose or calling is required to live a life of our creation instead of a life dictated by our circumstances.

      Thanks going out there.

Purpose is relative to the nature of you being that which you have been formed to be, and in the case of all Beings, there is a common purpose, which is to display a Divine Intelligence, because intelligence is an expression of Freedom, as all of Nature creatures reveal an expression of intelligence and that intelligence inform all life of its purpose, which is to live Free and be productive in life.

Just as the physical Universe serve as the unquestionable example of intelligence and purpose, the same must be my purpose in life, as I am an intimate extension of the physical Universe, so when you are functioning as an intelligent Being and Freedom is your companion, then my purpose is to live, enjoying the Greater Good of Life, and when my life has been interrupted from living as the Divine intelligent being I was designed to be, then my purpose is to be intelligent to inform the world of its meaning and purpose, which is to live intelligently Free, and as the Universal Bodies express their intelligence by the freedom of their movement, showing honor and respect to the members of its universal family, which emit the Energy that have them moving intelligently free, so is my purpose, which is to intelligently live free, as I acknowledge the Divine Essence that have all things To Be Free.

When not free, it is a sign that your intelligence has been altered in such a way it no longer function to have you to know that life purpose is to live freely and when not, then your purpose is to do what is neccessary to regain the Divinity of your intelligence which will inform and motivate you to know that your purpose in life is to live intelligently Free.

    • Thanks for being in action fulfilling your purpose.

      Something to consider:
Are you open to considering that their maybe no Truth, that Truth is only a point-of-view, that Truth is a commentary or a story about the FACTS or the ways this are?

What does anyone expect in case of loss (hurricane, tornado, earthquake, flood, fire, etc.)?
The disaster itself is news. What happens after the dust settles is the real story.
Perhaps insurance policyholders need to know they can have access to basic rights and information?

I asked, "Where are the sacred rights of insurance policyholders?" And because they were secret, I said, "I must create access."
