Thank you for this discussion. Does Racism exist? I think as soon as you say the word "Racism" you evoke a definition of a CONCEPT/IDEA mentally connected to the word. By AGREEMENT we collect concepts and ideas and when we accept the established view of the collective words are formed. The dictionary is basically a record of our agreements about what things are. Popular definitions become standard. Then the standard begins to inform and is used as a teaching tool for those who don't know the word and may or may not understand the concept. So what something IS is what the majority agree it is.

However, the definition of Racism has changed in order to mask the actual concept. The most popular definition of racism has been reworked into something else more appropriately described in terms of prejudice. The term prejudice says it all. You are judging something or someone on the basis of a pre-existing notion about them or their type. When the definition of Racism gets merged into prejudice the understanding is subverted and all of a sudden black people are able to be demonized and called racists which has a more destructive feeling than prejudice. Most people have PREFERENCES which they may or may not admit to. But if one is honest or gives facts that seem to place one group over another they are automatically labeled racist.

Racism by THIS subverted definition does EXIST but only in the minds of those who accept it. Even some who may preach this idea may not accept it. However, racism, by its original definition, and by the definition suggested by its actual linguistic construction, is a construct based on a false premise. A race itself is a totally invented idea, based not on rational science or observation, but on rhetoric and ego. For black people to accept the term "black race" we are accepting a construct created by Europeans. We allow this construct to exist. We give power to it. We make it real. Then we have long debates about how our race is not inferior when there was no such thing to begin with.

Now, where most people would rather focus on is what they have to deal with. We have an ILLUSION of race and an ILLUSION of money. But since both are accepted where do we go from here?

What a waste of time and energy. Why not use that time and energy discussing a question that might help us develop strategies to improve the lot of Black people in America and around the world? Another good question might be: What are Black people afraid of White people? Or "Why do Black people continue inappropriate behaviors that divert, distract and generally confuse an already brainwashed people?"

These are questions I would gladly engage in discussion. Peace.

    • Thanks, this is my "time". What are you doing with yours?
Are you not free and able to engage in a the discussions you choose?
      Why not do that?
Or are you just talking or waiting for someone else?

You presented information about Socrates but won't consider my input of quoting Dr.Frances Cress Welsings definition of Racism...Because it wasn't mine? Why? I agree with her definition as it defined patterns I've observed in my lifetime. So, if the shoe fits...The very words you use yourself are words and thoughts you've learned while engaged in your education.

I do agree that the Black man is original man...

It is apparent to me Kwasi Akyeampong that it is YOUR opinion that matter in this discussion. Individual thought generated by various input on the study of the subject matter RACE or RACISM is moot. How else could one contribute to this discourse without defining the various terms in question? You bring to this discussion the origin of man and his evolution, the colors of man, etc but your subject had to do with What if there was no racism without allowing input for the definition of the term...So how do you define the vary word you presented to this discussion?
