They are who we say they are.
The way we view the police is the way the police are.
However, when we change the way we view the police, the way the police are changes.
And, they, the police, will be who we say they are.
Therefore, as we commemorate the birthday of Malcolm X on May 19th, I invite us to stand in the spirit of Sankofa (Take from the past only that which is necessary to get us into the future) and give up any sordid rhetoric from Malcolm X, the Black Panthers, the Republic of New Afrika and the Black Liberation Army.
African Americans have arrived at the roundabout of history and it is time - in our time, this time, to choose and chart own course - no new thought no new action and no new result.
"Cast your bucket down where you are" and build, build,...
...or haunt the streets ranting "They are who we thought they were...."
