Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, it seems, is about being politically correct and the worship of Dr. King - a prophet.

On Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, it seems that Spike Lee, Jada Pinkett Smith and some others forgot about the CONTENT OF CHARACTER NOT THE COLOR OF SKIN when they blast the Oscars for not nominating African Americans for the Actors.

Why must an African Americans be nominated by the Oscars? Why? Why? Because they are African Americans?

On Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day the "I have a dream" speech in played over and over. It is "I have a dream" not we have a dream. That was his dream. What's your dream? What's my dream?

It seems to me that the opportunity of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is to do as Micheal Jackson implored us. Take a look in the mirror - MAN IN THE MIRROR.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. started with the Man In The Mirror - "I have a dream."

Man in the Mirror

"I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you want to make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make that
Change!" ~Michael Jackson

First, citing Michael Jackson is puzzling.  He had a number of issues, including his identity as a Black man. Black actors deserve the same respect as others, not because they are Black, because they are talented.  I'm surprised that there is even a discussion on this.  How is it that a White person was nominated for "Straight Outta Compton,"  a Black movie?  How could the star of "Creed" be passed over for Sylvester Stallone, who had a nominal role? Let's give credit where credit is due.  Stop hating and making excuses for racism.

    • MJ had some issues, of course, and I think he was acknowledging that in this song.  He was talking about taking personal responsibility, which has to be the number one starting point.  We do not need to be perfect before we start spreading the message.  We just need to be making an effort to improve.

    • I agree.  We are at least as talented as the white actors, directors and writers, but we are not getting the recognition we deserve.  I believe this was Spike's point about the Oscars.
