The concept of God is thought to be rational and logical. People accept religions as an extension of this core idea. However, the concept of God, as portrayed in most religions is nonsensical, illogical, and more a product of superstition. Of course even saying this is offensive to many people so let me explain before you start eyeing stones to throw. (and I apologize for the unintended offenses caused by this post)
The basic argument of creation is "LOOK AT HOW AMAZING ALL THIS IS. IT COULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT A CREATOR." So because we are such sophisticated and symmetrical pieces of biological engineering we assume that we were engineered. This is indeed POSSIBLE, but the logical problem comes in when you think our creation is necessary to our existence. It's not.
If your argument is "I am complex therefore I must have been created by a being more powerful/complex" then that means this same being, in order to explain its existence, would have to also have a creator more power/complex than itself. See the problem? This creates an endless lineage of creators, each more powerful/complex than the latter. This is like technology being more advanced in the past than in the future. Doesn't make logical sense. The only thing that makes logical sense is the exact opposite. Things starting out as simple forms and then coming together to create more complexity, not less.
But no one will ever ask God about the things that don't make sense; why he always creates beings inferior to himself. And really... few people ever ask questions about God's existence. For people who love God so much we don't even realize that we know almost nothing about 'him' relative to what we believe about him. I'm more inclined to the ancient Kemetic school of thought where the gods were not real, but were concepts that were personified and anthropomorphized into stories which explain what, to them, was science, and what to us is religion and "magic". Someone tells you a story about the nature of the universe and because you don't understand or are "uninitiated" you completely miss the point and take the story literally. I think religion is basically a bunch of people running around arguing stories while missing the point. And in many cases the stories were stolen from people who actually had a point so there's something there even if the religion and its masses of adherents don't understand what it is because they're waiting on a bearded white man in the clouds to come and save them.
The holy books are designed to speak to everyone because they are a mirror for the human condition. The problem occurs when you are striving to be like the mirror and not better than it. I'll give you an example. Many people believe in the bible and strive to follow after the civilization of the ancient Israelites... who were barbaric and wicked. What was "good" to them was simply "less wicked" but still things we would not choose to do today. Religions are PROGRAMMING for the mind. If people were not INFECTED by these programs would they think all the same things were okay? No. These programs define reality for them and they use that definition to judge and execute judgment on others. And often we accept a program because we're afraid not to have one or afraid to not have an explanation for our own existence. But the people who wrote the bible had no such explanation either.
Greetings. First of all, I think that the premise is in error. Why are we blaming the Creator for the heinous and cowardly acts committed in Kenya or anywhere else on the earth? All of us were born with the ability to choose our own path. All of us were born with a conscience. All of us were born with a mind connected to the Creator.
Admittedly, much violence, bloodshed, wars, genocides, and brainwashing has been done in the name of religion. In fact, in my opinion, religion should be abolished, for when institutions are structured and managed by men, their prejudices and personal beliefs seep into that institution. Those beliefs are then thrust upon others as truth. When the beliefs of one religion clashes with the beliefs of another religion, terrible things are done to humans made in the image of God. These terrible things are tantamount to doing these things to God.
So, I am not a member of an 'religion'. Instead, I have chosen to listen to everyone's ideas, beliefs and concepts. Then, I use the brain, mind, heart and spirit that the Creator has endowed me with to sort out what is truth to me. Then I attempt, as best I can, to live that truth each and every day.
However, this truth is not static, unchanging as is the case with religion. The truth seems to change as I listen to others, blend what I have heard or read and discard that which is redundant or in error to me and often I discover something new that triggers a cascade of new ideas and concepts. The end result is change. My truth is always changing because I am changing and the world I live in is changing. Since I am part of the universe and everything in the universe is made of energy, we are all connected, yet strive so hard to be individuals. Yet, we are not.
For me, the great truth I recently absorbed and made my own has little to do with Judaism, Christianity or Islam, but everything to do with the Holy Scriptures, the Word of God. Read Deut. Chapter 28 and tell me who are the people described there? Read Gen. 15:13, 14 and tell me how long it will last? Then consider how close we are to the end of all of this madness and an opportunity to elevate our thinking above and beyond what others think or believe and be more like God - think for yourself.
Just something to think about, my brother. Something to think about. Peace.
This is why as Afrikans, be they from the Diaspora or from the continent, we must go back to our indigenous spiritual systems and abandon these Abrahamic, plagiarized religions of Judaism, Christianity or Islam. We must go back to the way of our ancient Afrikan ancestors. It is because of these false, Euro-Asiatic religions that we can formulate in our minds the rationalizations to commit such cowardly, heinous acts as was committed in Kenya, yesterday.
