Presented By: Tafadzwa ShakaRa Mbandaka, journalist, youth leader and spoken word activist

Unarmed 17 year old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed after being profiled and pursued by neighbourhood watchman George Zimmerman on 26th February 2012, who was only arrested and charged 6 weeks later after mass protests from the Afrikan community. WHITE AMERICA & its media then went into overdrive characterising Trayvon as the agressor and a thug who effectively got his just desserts. So while many saw the not guilty verdict as a travesty, few were surprised by it. This Nommo will analyse the case, the media coverage, parallels with the UK and the lessons to be learned from it.

Addressing key questions like:
What was the media role in perceptions of the case and trial?
Was justice done?
Is it now open season on Afrikan youth?
Is Zimmerman white America’s OJ?
How should Afrikans in America respond to the verdict?
Are there any UK parallels with the Trayvon case?

"NOMMO can be thought, NOMMO can be played on an instrument, NOMMO can be sung. It is prayer. It is curse. It is incantation! NOMMO is a praise song. NOMMO is our use of the spiritually activating principle. NOMMO is will and intent. NOMMO is consciousness."
