This is a blog I posted several years ago about a one-day course I attended in London.
One person who particularly fascinated me was Dr. Scholes, a Jamaican who travelled all around Africa in the mid-19th century, and sent back reports which were published in a weekly newspaper. People in communities all over Jamaica would gather each week to hear the reports from Africa read to them. What has happened to that Pan-African spirit now?

One thing I didn't mention then - maybe I didn't know - was that there were offices of Marcus Garvey's UNIA all over Africa in the early 20th century.
