3828817923?profile=originalThe International Center for Traditional Childbearing (ICTC) believes that pregnancy, mothering and parenting is a special time, and should be a time of joy. We recognize that in many instances, misinformation surrounds pregnancy, birth and parenting. This causes some women to experience unnecessary fear and stress that may contribute to early labor, poor birth outcome and melancholy.

The ICTC trains ICTC Full Circle Doulas® to serve as birth companions in labor and postpartum care and to provide emotional support by honoring the sacredness of pregnancy, supporting good nutrition and exercise, and the use of traditional comfort measures to assist mothers and their partners for a happy and healthy pregnancy.

The ICTC Full Circle Doula® (IFCD®) philosophy, "It takes a village to nurture the pregnant woman," is a spinoff of the African Proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child." Studies have shown that when pregnant women feel supported by their community, they have reduced stress and a healthier pregnancy experience.

The ICTC is committed to training high quality, professional doulas in the physiology of birth and traditional comfort measures to improve the birth experience for all women. The IFCD® Training includes the midwifery model of care, public health, traditional comfort measures, breastfeeding support, postpartum care and rituals. The IFCD® establishes a professional doula client relationship that forms a sense of wellbeing for the mother and produces a safety net for her.

The International Center for Traditional Childbearing has trained over 700 ICTC Full Circle Doulas® since 2002. There has been an increase in women requesting ICTC Full Circle Doula’s®, and ICTC is committed to meeting the demand. ICTC encourages you to train as an ICTC Full Circle Doula® and emerge as a leader for your community and an advocate for physiological birth and knowledge in reducing infant and maternal mortality.
