NOVEMBER 29, 2010
NAT TURNER LIBRARY, SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA –
Central to everything in “The Message” delivered to Black people,
by The Honorable Elijah Muhammad was the dictum, “Do For Self.”
This dictum hinged on another of his declarations that ‘We Must Have
Some Land!”
Many, correctly, read in the latter declaration, “We Must Have
Some Land,” a key part of the Reparations package The Nation of Islam
demanded of America. After all, behind the entire meaning of the Great
Issue of Reparations, is that if the culprit in the criminal act that
caused the damage, the payment of Reparations would “begin the
healing process;” the healing would empower the repaired people to practice
self-determination.
This implies that the repaired people can, in fact manage their
own affairs, across all socialization requirements of a Free Willed people.
Of course this fact also scares “to death” the naysayers who do not believe
Black people can manage their own affairs - governing themselves by
running a government.
Throughout our history, we who have documentation that we have always had individuals who had, absolutely, no doubt that we are capable. We work with the understanding that we can aim to achieve nothing less than the right to govern self, if we really want complete freedom.
TREATING THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE:
THE DECEMBER FAST DECLARED BY MR. MUHAMMAD
We do not know this as a certainty, but I think we can reasonably
conclude that when the Honorable Elijah Muhammad declared a December
Fast for members of the Nation of Islam, besides the obvious and
practical reasons he gave us, he also realized that there is no other
known physical exercise the human can engage self in over a period of
time, to connect to and evolve the Unseen part of his being, that is more
effective than abstaining from the consumption of material substances into
our bodies.
