San Juan, Puerto Rico. January 7, 2011.- “If the U.S. Parole Commission accepts the recommendation of the Hearing examiner to deny parole to Puerto Rican political prisoner, Oscar López River, that decision would be despotic, odious and cruel, and for the sole purpose of intimidating those who struggle for the independence of Puerto Rico.
Oscar’s patriotic spirit and temper, to which I can personally testify, since I had the privilege of meeting with him several years ago, is unbreakable. The best homage we can render to him is to continue working harder every day for his release.
Every day that Oscar remains in prison is an additional reminder of the hypocrisy of the United States government when it speaks of human rights, of the unsustainability of the colonial regime, and the imperative necessity of the independence of Puerto Rico.
Oscar is free and present in the hearts of all who feel proud to be sons and daughters of this Homeland, and he is a source of inspiration for all.”
Al patriota Oscar López Rivera
Jamás perderé la esperanza
en mi pueblo borinqueño
nuestra sangre no es de horchata
y no nos faltan guerreros.
En Lares y antes de Lares
combatimos al imperio
somos hijos de Betances,
hermanos de Filiberto.
Hermanos de Carmín Pérez,
Lolita, Blanca Canales
y de tantas otras mujeres
de valor inclaudicable.
Somos un pueblo valiente
un pueblo que no se rinde
y cueste lo que nos cueste
seremos un pueblo libre.
Batimos los holandeses
allá por los mil quinientos
corrimos a los ingleses
y a los yanquis venceremos.
Que no han podido vencernos
ni con cárceles ni balas
y estaremos combatiendo
hasta rescatar la Patria.
