 DEFENDING THE FRONT/BACK DOORS OF BRONX SCHOOLS

ON JULY 14TH, MORRISANIA AND HIGHBRIDGE WILL UNITE TO EMBRACE JHS 145 TO BRING ATTENTION FOR TWO COMMUNITIES, WHO ARE NOT GOING TO JUST ACCEPT UNSAFE SCHOOL ZONES. FROM 3PM TO 7PM, AT 165TH STREET AND CLAY AVENUE, WE WILL LOCK ARMS FOR THE PROTECTION OF OUR CHILDREN.
The Corporation's spin by Promesa Basic about a Men's Transitional Shelter (200 men), near PS 126 in Highbridge (Bronx) gave many assurances concerning safety but the community-at-large say they are living it far differently. Of greatest concern, Sex Offenders level 2 and level 3 were being placed in 260 Sedgwick Ave.
The politicians made sure Highbridge didn't even know what was coming. There was no impact study done. NO ULURP followed. Highbridge residents did react strongly and strategically but the corporation's plans have continued unimpeded.
Now in Morrisania (Bronx) the same template was used for a similar plan in placing another 200 bed men's transitional shelter, right across the street from JHS 145, on East 165th Street and Clay Avenue. The community there have been proactive yet they have found the harmful policy is still going forth. The halfway house is due to open during the month of July.

The need to stop the madness grows more desperate every day. The residents call is for rationality and respect for the quality of life for all our children.

BASICS Chief Operating Officer Pam Mattel has said:
" that it's actually safer for sex offenders to live in Skyway (Queens) than in the community at large. "The sex offenders who are in the shelter at Skyway are receiving more services and support and observation than if they were living in the community,"

Demands include:
1) In Highbridge, relocate the Men from 1260 Sedgwick away from PS 126 and the community-at-large and return the mothers and babies back to that shelter.

2) In Morrisania, remove the Men's transitional shelter away from the front of PS 145 and the community-at-large and use that building as per Community's recommendations.

3) A call to the Public Advocate to investigate what are the roots of these decisions that endangers our children and was done in such a sneaky way. Why is the Bronx being saturated with Transitional Shelters?
