PACK THE COURT - THURSDAY FOR THE NEWBURGH 4
8:30 AM - Outside Vigil/Rally
...9 AM - Pack Courtroom 14C - As Judge Colleen McMahon considers defense motions for a dismissal and/or a new trial in the case of the Newburgh Four.
City Hall (6/R/J to City Hall; A/C to Chambers), 14th Floor, Courtroom 14C,
The judge granted the requests for oral argument on the defense’s motions over the prosecution's objections. The sentencing has been postponed as a result. As the judge considers these motions, it’s crucial to show popular support for Newburgh 4, and resistance to the FBI’s use of informants and entrapment techniques, and the government’s overbroad and discriminatory terrorism prosecutions.
Details:
Who Are the Newburgh Four?
The Newburgh Four are African–American men from an impoverished area of upstate New York, one of whom is schizophrenic. The four were lured by a government agent with offers of cash and cars to consider engaging in terrorist activity. All evidence shows that these men engaged with the agent provocateur for money, that they did not have the means to carry out any terrorist actions, and that they would have never considered getting involved with any such plot had it not been for the informant’s prodding and plotting, all of which preyed on the men’s vulnerabilities. The men now face life in prison for this government-constructed plot.
