The call by Malik Zulu Shabazz, national chairman of the New Black Panther Party and founder of Black Lawyers for Social Justice, for a National Day of Action on Saturday, April 23rd, to bring together the Black community about injustices and social ills stalking those communities, will be well answered and represented in Newark with a rally slated tentatively for 12 noon that day at Newark City Hall, located at 920 Broad Street.
As this goes to press, there is emerging a healthy, cross-section of organizations and leaders endorsing and participating in this gathering, ranging from the New Black Panther Party itself, the People’s Organization for Progress, to the Street Warriors and Metropolitan Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor David Jefferson.
“What we are really talking about is the need to forge a united front against privatization, gentrification, war, police brutality, street violence and all other forms of oppression stalking our community like a vampire,” explained Zayid Muhammad.

The historic village of Harlem will also be well represented!
Participants will host a rally at 125th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Blvd.
“Harlem’s rally will be at ‘Afrikan Square’ in the old street speaking tradition of Garvey, of Carlos Cooks, of Malcolm, of so many others over the years, but instead of one group pushing its own line, it will be a number of different forces and they will be pushing the need to come together,” Muhammad explained.
New, young voices like Rev.Omar Wilks will be represented, to the seasoned veteran forces Omowale Clay of the December 12th Movement and the ‘People’s Councilman,’ Charles Barron.
