NAACP: March with us on Washington, DC - October 2nd

NAACP

March with us
On October 2, one of the most important rallies in decades will happen in Washington, DC. Will you march with us?

The NAACP is leading the effort to build a broad coalition of One Nation Working Together -- a coalition that will work to pull America back together and put America back to work. But we cannot do it without your help.

Buses and carpools are being organized from every corner of the country for this historic event. Will you join us?

Two years ago, NAACP members and our allies were responsible for one of the biggest surges in grassroots movement activity in history.

Since then, by working together, we have successfully increased rights for women at work, expanded health care coverage to tens of millions of Americans, cut the sentencing disparity between crack and powder cocaine by more than 80 percent, and created more than 3 million jobs throughout the economy.

Yet we know that 8 million American jobs have been lost and not replaced, more than 2.5 million Americans have lost their homes and 5 million are at risk of losing their homes, and schools, farms, and small businesses are closing at unprecedented rates. In each case, people of color are generally worse off, and black Americans are bearing an especially high portion of the burden.

Moreover, as in decades past, with real progress has come massive resistance and backlash. We have seen the Tea Party rise to media prominence -- too often welcoming appeals to racism and hatred as a motivating force within its ranks. We have stood up to the forces of extremism within the Tea Party because it is the right thing to do, and it is what the NAACP has always done.

The mission of the NAACP has always called on us -- in the face of disparity, injustice, and rising hate -- to build big, diverse coalitions that dream bold dreams and win big victories.

This is why NAACP units across the country are working alongside student, labor, immigrants' rights, and faith groups to unite Americans under the umbrella of One Nation.

Together, we will rally in Washington, DC on October 2, 2010 for Jobs, Justice, and Education. People across the nation are organizing transportation so that everyone interested in participating can be included. Will you take a moment to RSVP?

The NAACP and our allies are still the majority of voters in this country. The forces of hope that ushered in change have not disappeared -- they have simply gone back to the couch. So let us wake our neighbors up, turn our neighbors out to the polls, and keep making real progress happen for our communities and all Americans.

We hope you will be part of this incredible event in Washington on October 2nd. And if you cannot be there, we hope you will help plan an event in your neighborhood.

We have always been the change we have been waiting for. And as our victory in the health care fight taught us, when we stand together with our allies we defy the odds and make history happen.

Thanks for courage and commitment,

Ben Jealous
President and CEO
