International Women’s Day celebration: STILL WE RISE

A cultural/political celebration of International Women’s Day will be cohosted by the U.S. and Australian chapters of Radical Women, a long-lived activist organization with ties to international feminist movements. The online event, titled “Still We Rise: Women Rebel Against All Odds,” will feature a presentation by Melbourne artist and activist Maudie Osborne about the numerous ways women are fighting for their rights at home and abroad. Seattle actor Merri Ann Osborne will perform Maya Angelou’s poem “Still I Rise” and San Francisco poet Nellie Wong will read her own “Women of the World.”

The public event is Saturday, March 12, 4pm PST (5pm MST, 6pm CST, 7pm EST). Register in advance at tinyurl.com/IWD-22. Info:

International Women’s Day was initiated in 1910 by German socialist Clara Zetkin to commemorate a strike by women textile workers in New York City who were demanding safe working conditions, higher wages, and an end to the 12-hour work day. Since then, it has been celebrated around the world and in the U.S.
