An opportunity for Afrikan* people to share the outcomes of the
United Nations World Conference Against Racism (UN WCAR)

Want to look at how the commitments made by governments at the UN WCAR can be used to promote race equality? Didn't make the UN World Conferences Against Racism in Durban or Geneva? Then this is the event for you!

Global Afrikan Congress uk (GACuk) invites you to a one day Conference to look at how the UN WCAR Outcome document can support our work as concerned Afrikans locally, nationally and internationally.

Keynote Speaker is His Excellency Mr Anthony Johnson, Jamaican High Commissioner to the UK. Other speakers include Cikiah Thomas (GAC Canada and GAC International Working Committee Chair), Dr Lez Henry, Sister Ekua, Cecil Gutzmore (Haiti Now! Haiti First!) and Baba Amani Buntu (GAC International Secretary, South Africa).

Don't miss this unique opportunity to hear from UN WCAR delegates and put good words into action!

We will look at how we can continue to promote our needs in a different political climate with potentially different thinking on race and a difficult economic climate.

We will look at documents, research and strategies such as:
  • “Tackling Race Inequalities - A Statement on Race” (CLG, January 2010);
  •  UK Report to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination;
  • The REACH Role Model program for young Afrikan boys and men;
  • Count Me In surveys and New Horizons;
  • The Leading Action on Race Equality and Health Guide;
  • An Anatomy of Economic Inequality in the UK - National Equality Panel;
  • The Equal Opportunities Commission “Moving On Up" and
  • Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs)
to identify how we can harness their potential benefits for Afrikan people as the basis for civic participation and activism. The Citizenship Survey, April to December 2009, England shows that Afrikans were most likely to feel that we can influence decisions in our local area (50%) and in Britain (36%). Let's show what we can do!
