On behalf of the Justice for Michael Brown Leadership Coalition we would like to thank the hundreds of people who physically displayed their support for the Highway 70 Shutdown last Wednesday, September 10, 2014. We also thank the thousands of people who supported this effort in spirit.
Although not able to close the highway down completely due to the overwhelming state highway and local police forces, we consider our action a success based on the following: 1. A determined force of over 600 people gathered as planned to continue the clarion call for justice for not only Mike Brown, but for our people in general. 2. Due to their overwhelming presence, the police actually helped our crusade by causing a tremendous traffic jam for miles. (Not Reported in the Press) 3. A determined band of young people as part of our overall strategy, stopped their vehicles on the East bound lanes of highway 70 causing further traffic stoppage for 4 1/2 minutes, symbolizing the 4 1/2 hours the police allowed Mike Brown's body to lay on the ground after his murder by officer Darren Wilson.(Not Reported in the Press) 4. Also, the same day, another band of your people completely stopped traffic on Interstate 64/40 for at least 30 minutes in conjunction with the the highway 70 shutdown. (Not Reported in the Press) 5. Finally, traffic on North Florissant Rd., in front of the Ferguson Police Department was stopped for nearly 1 1/2 hours. (Not Reported in the Press) So, my people, with the multiple actions that took place, we claim victory for that day. But, the struggle continues on. Our next action is to pack the upcoming public meeting of the St. Louis County Council which will be held 6:00pm- Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the St. Louis County Chambers, 1st Fl, 41 South Central, Clayton, MO. ~
