vtribes-cover-tribal-chief-final-460x663.pngSince its release in 2014, the first edition of Vanishing Tribes has been accessed by roughly 1,000 people around the world. For an eBook, that’s a tiny number. Almost all readers downloaded the book (or read it online) shortly after launch or within 2 days after Victor Mambor’s article in Tabloid Jubi. Since that time, it’s been only one or two people a day and diminishing. To reach critical mass (tens of thousands) we need to change our distribution strategy to something more sustainable.

The 2016 Version (new story, layout, updates) is now finished and offers us a new opportunity to fulfill our original intent, to get the message out to the mainstream beyond those already aware of West Papua.

So, instead of our 2014 shotgun approach offering the eBook for free in as many ways as possible, we plan to launch the 2016 Version for a low price ($3 or $4 US) through just one major distributor (Amazon) to get the marketing benefits until VT can gain a foothold in the eBook market. Proceeds will be used to cover the cost of translations.

This exclusivity means we have to stop giving it away, so all 7 free versions of the 2014 edition will be removed by sometime next month. Before we do, we want to offer all of you - and whoever you may tell about this - a free copy of the new Vanishing Tribes 2016 in either of two formats, both of which can be found at: http://www.vanishingtribes.net/

1. For readers not concerned about being tracked by Apple, the best format for reading/viewing the publication (high resolution with pop-up links) is currently available free on the Apple iBooks Store (for iPads, iPhones or Macs with iBooks).

2. Your location or identity will not be tracked if you choose to download (or read online) a lower-resolution PDF version for activists concerned about their safety downloading a book that advocates West Papuan independence.

Please help yourself while it’s still free, and broadcast this time-limited offer as widely as you can. You can keep the eBook as long as you like - it’s what the industry calls a Free Book Promotion. You can also share the pdf files with one person at a time, but you must not post them anywhere on the Internet.

Thank you for your understanding and support. May the incredible story of West Papua soon become common knowledge worldwide.

P.S. Vanishing Tribes is still only available in English. Please let us know if you or someone you know can translate it!
