   THE LEADERSHIP IN THE BRONX HAS DESERTED US OR HAS FLED FROM THE FRONT LINE. WE CALL ON ALL TO STEP UP AND STOP THE PLACING OF A MEN'S TRANSITIONAL SHELTER ACROSS THE FRONT DOORWAY OF JHS 145. THE ENTIRE BLOCK ACROSS FROM THE CHILDREN'S SCHOOL AND PLAYGROUND WILL BE A MEN'S HUMAN WAREHOUSE. We must give our children their childhood back.

   THERE strong evidence of race playing a role in how SHELTERS are being placed all over the Bronx. Whether that it is on purpose or not, but just the fact that the way that the system is - disadvantages minorities.

   We are not here to demonize poor Black Men, many who are sick or just out of prinson and who don't have a place to live.  But We cannot romanticize this either.
Would you accept this near your school for your children to deal with this everyday? THIS IS A HARMFUL POLICY. WE should not be accepting this.  How can such a destructive concept be allowed to go forth.
OUR children deserve a hostile free environment.

  And we know, HOMELESSNESS IS BIG BUSINESS. They are dividing two poor groups.  WE HAVE KEPT OUR EYES ON WHO IS MAKING $$ OFFF OF THIS.

The politicians made sure Highbridge didn't even know what was coming. There was no impact study done. NO ULURP followed.  Highbridge residents did react strongly and strategically but the corporation's plans have continued unimpeded.
     Now in Morrisania (Bronx) the same template was used for a similar plan in placing another 200 bed men's transitional shelter, right across the street from JHS 145, on East 165th Street and Clay Avenue. The community there have been proactive yet they have found the harmful policy is still going forth. The halfway house is due to open during the month of July.
