About Mike Ramey:
Mike Ramey is the Modern Street Gangs & Media Consultant of “The Gang Line”. He has been interviewed in the US and abroad on radio, television and Internet about the dangers of Modern Street Gangs since 2007. Previously, he served as an award-winning broadcast journalist, producer and TV/Radio talk show host; print staff writer and section editor. Since the 1980s, Ramey has covered gangs in Indianapolis and beyond. He has won--or helped to win--some two dozen journalism awards and citations. He also holds a Police Citation for Citizen Bravery from the Indianapolis Police Department (1986). He is also a Christian, and comes at gangs from this perspective.
Ramey is a Certified Modern Street Gangs Specialist, with Law Enforcement (2006), Non-Law Enforcement (2010) and Gangs & Cults (2017) certifications, plus endorsements in K-12 Gang Issues and Transnational Gang Tactics. He has held workshops and trainings with and for street-level and school-based law enforcement personnel among others. He carries Specialist ratings in the area of Cult/Occult Crime, Transnational Human Trafficking and has served as a national/transnational consultant to various anti-gang ministries including Thug Exposed Ministries in California (2010 to 2015) and Bishop Outreach Ministries in Florida (2010 to 2015).
In 2011 “The Gang Line” began offering training and certification coursework for those interested in becoming certified Modern Street Gangs Specialists: Those approaching the anti-gang field through the combined use of the spiritual (biblical principles/discipleship) and criminal (gang life dealing with gang members). From 2015-17, Ramey served as an Advisory Board Member for the School of Criminal Justice/Harrison College, Indianapolis, Indiana, with a specialty in Organized Crime & Gangs.
Ramey is an Ordained minister and Bible teacher, is married and resides in Indianapolis, Indiana. His background also includes that of being a veteran substitute teacher, a college instructor, a Probation Officer (Intensive/High Risk & School-Based) with the Marion County Juvenile Court and a peer grant reviewer of anti-gang grant programs for the US Department of Justice. He also created, designed and taught the course UM-190 “Modern Street Gangs: Developing Urban Ministry Strategies” in 2009 and 2010 at Crossroads Bible College, Indianapolis, Indiana for those who desired to serve Jesus Christ in an Urban Ministry environment. In 2013, Rev. Ramey served as a post-production consultant for Chick Publications’ anti-gang comic: “Black Angel”. It has been released nationwide, with a Spanish-language version released in 2014.
Ramey has served as an on-line counselor for the Gangstyle.com from 2004 to 2009. His priority area was helping parents to understand how their teens could be involved in gang activity. His Internet writings include: “The Gang Line”, giving parents an inside view as to the criminal and spiritual dangers of Modern Street Gangs. Syndicated writings include: “The Manhood Line”, “The Ramey Commentaries”, “The Gang Line Blogger”, “On Line Reviews” and “From Player To Coach”, abounding in cyberspace.
