The MAAT organization held the 23rd Annual Kwanzaa Celebration at the Cotillion Ballroom on the Southern University campus. The event was held Thursday, December 29th, the 4th day of Kwanzaa 2011. UJAMMA -Cooperative economics.MAAT is an Africentric Focus Study Group, which meet every other Friday at 7:30p.m. Judge Trudy White of the 19th Judicial Court passed the mantel of Mistress of Ceremony to Dr. Akilah M. Ali. She shepherded a series of presentations including Libation, “Clearing the Way”, poems and oaths but it was a tribute of the River Road African American Museum Sign Language Ensemble to Michael Jackson which warmed the hearts of the audience and brought on the applause.
