We extend a sincere thanks to each of you who attended our recent Marcus Garvey celebration. In keeping with the theme of the celebration " Relaunching the UAPO National Black Political Movement," we cordially invite you to a Press Conference/ Luncheon & Organizing Meeting in Preparation for our Upcoming National Black Peoples Political Leadership Conference (October 30 &31).
The Press Conference and Luncheon will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 12Noon. The site for this event is the William J. Harrison Educational Center, 3140 Cass Avenue ( East of Grand) St. Louis, MO. Lunch will be free.
We are looking for Progressive Minded People willing to support a Bold Vision and Powerful Movement to Achieve "Proportionate Political Representation." Proportionate Political Representation simply means that whatever percentage we are as a people on the National, State and Local levels of this country, then we should have that percentage of political representation/power.
However, we are 13% of this country's population, yet of the estimated 511,000 publicly elected officials in this country, only 10,500 (2%) are Black. With "Proportionate Political Representation" that number should be at least 66,430 (13%). There are 50 State Governors and none are Black (0%), whereas that number should be at least 7 (13%). In the United States Senate, there are 100 Senators and only 2 (2%) are Black; whereas we should have at least 13 (13%). On a local level, Ferguson, Missouri population at the time of the murder of Michael Brown was 64% Black, yet of the 6 member city council, only 1 was Black. But after the rebellion, we now have 3 (50%); although according to our numbers we should be in the majority.
As taxpayers and in the spirit of those who fought and died for us to have the right to vote, we should be outraged in respect to the above figures. Accordingly, for those in the St. Louis area Be Sure You Attend the Press Conference/Luncheon Saturday, September 12. Also, keep in mind, the 2016 National, State and local elections are fast approaching and who will be our candidates for US Senators, Governors, other Statewide and local offices. Therefore, all Progressive Minded People mark on your calendar Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, October 31, 2015, the National Black Peoples Political Leadership Conference, St. Mark Family Church, 9950 Glen Owen, St. Louis, Mo. Preregistration is $35.00 at door $45.00.
