Income and Wealth are direct determinants of health. For most Black
Americans the  abilityt o have income and wealth is directly related to the
availability and security of employment. Without adequate income from
employment, access to food, housing, and other basic prerequisites of
health, is impossible.  However, even when employment is
available, deteriorating working condition, wages and benefits, and
increasing employment insecurity threatens health.  As with income and
wealth, Black American’s health is tied to the jobs and work they do. The
nature and stability of work conditions and employment situation, and
access to power, control and resources all have an impact on Black health.
