P.O.P. REMEMBERS TRAYVON MARTIN!
HOSTS CHILDREN’S PROGRAM, MOTHER AND MEMORIAL MARCH!
On Saturday, February 22nd, the People’s Organization for Progress will host a special afternoon with Sybrina Fulton, the mother of the late Trayvon Martin, in observation of the second anniversary of his senseless killing by self-appointed community watchman George Zimmerman on February 26, 2012.
Newark teen performer, Javis Hanks will be a special guest and will perform his widely popular hip hop song, ‘Dear Trayvon’ (www.JavisWorld.com), that he recorded for Martin at the event.
In the aftermath of the acquittal of George Zimmerman, the People’s Organization for Progress hosted a spirited march in Newark, condemning the acquittal.
“We have let the Justice Department know of our feelings about this miscarriage of justice,” said Lawrence Hamm, the founding chairman for the organization.
“We are prepared to continue to let them know in the streets if need be,” he finished firmly.
The program will take place at Abyssinian Baptist Church, 224 West Kinney Street, Newark at 3pm…
Earlier in the day, P.O.P.’s Irvington chapter and their youth initiative, the Popcorn Kidz, will spotlight Trayvon Martin in their monthly children’s Black history program at the Irvington Library at 1pm.
Not only was Martin killed in February, on the 26th as indicated above, he was also born on February 5th.
In addition to highlighting the Black history of February, the event will celebrate Trayvon’s life.

On Wednesday, February 26th, the actual anniversary of Martin’s killing, P.O.P. will host a memorial march for Martin!
Participants will assemble at Broad and Market, downtown Newark at 5pm….
