On Thursday, July 26th, the People’s Organization of Progress will host an important discussion on women of color organizing to empower themselves at their weekly general assembly meeting.
P.O.P.’s weekly general assembly meeting takes place at Abyssinian Baptist Church, 224 West Kinney Street, Newark. Doors will open at 6:30pm.
Their special guest will be Lynn Roberts, a representative from the highly regarded collective, Sister Song, a woman of color reproductive justice collective (www.SisterSong.net.)
Launched in 1997 in Atlanta, SisterSong’s network now consists of 80 organizations empowering women of color to defend their human rights through community organizing. SisterSong pays special attention to reproductive justice and women’s health issues with its work.
Roberts will also do a video presentation of the Collective called ‘Trust Black Women,’ an empowering project especially designed to reach young Black women.
“I have seen the work of Casa Atabex Ace (pronounced ah-tah-bay ah- shay), a member of the SisterSong network in New York and its empowering impact on young Latinas coordinated by highly respected organizer Esperanza Martell,” said Zayid Muhammad of P.O.P’s media committee.
“If the other organizations are doing highly credible and impactful work like what we’ve seen at Casa, our audience is in for a powerful treat,” finished Muhammad who is also a longtime national official for the New Black Panther Party.
The People’s Organization for Progress hosts its weekly general assembly meeting every Thursday at Abyssinian Baptist Church.
